Not to alarm anyone, but if Creationists actually succeeded in taking over science education, this could be a class test. Just kidding, but I do think this is funny.
If all of these events could happen on the same day, that would be the day to buy a lottery ticket. I wonder how long it took them to film this. It is funny.
Take a person to an open field, blindfold them, and tell them to walk straight across the field. You may think, "Sure, no problem. I could do that easily." Unfortunately, you would be wrong. Over and over again, people recreate this basic experiment and the results end up the same for absolute no known reason. Instead of walking in a straight line, you will actually walk in a circle. Without the aid of fixed points of reference, the human body tends to walk in circles. Researchers find the same situation when walking, swimming or even when driving a car (I hope it was a very open field!).
No explanation exists for this circular phenomenon. Some blame our disproportionate bodies, dominant handedness, or dominant hemispheres-ness. It seems that our possible explanations also keep us running in circles.
I would like to try the experiment. Could be fun!
Enjoy this video on the strange phenomenon from NPR:
Check out this video of Johnny McEntee, a quarterback from the University of Connecticut. He makes some unbelievable throws- some of them HAVE to be editing tricks. You won't be disappointed.
If found this picture from several sites, but it comes from Pleated Jeans. Called "The United States of Shame", this map shows what areas your state comes in dead last for. Some of them are sad,(Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland), some are weird (Washington, New Mexico), and some are expected (Texas, too easy).
Some other facts: While Kentucky has the highest rates of cancer deaths, they also have the highest rate of tobacco smokers. Maine scores the lowest on the SAT. Mississippi comes in last in several categories, all equally sad (child poverty, teen pregnancies, STDs, lowest income).
North Carolina ranks last in teacher salaries which is both sad and expected.
Rob Paravonian has this great routine about his hatred of Pachelbel's Canon in D. Most people recognize the song when they hear it, but never realize how the same chord progression shows up in a lot of pop music songs. Here is the chord progression :
Found this on YouTube, North Point Community Church performed a Christmas-themed remake of The Devil Went Down to Georgia. The Guitar Hero part was kind of lame, but it was pretty funny over all!
No one mocks the news better than the Daily Show. For the most absurd debate ever, Jon Stewart takes on the War on Christmas. Let's be honest. Christians make up the majority of our country and have control of every branch at every level of Government. Yet, somehow people seem to think that Christmas is under attack. It's not.
NBC's Community had this awesome anthropology rap to end one of their shows. It contains three things necessary for a classic clip: (1) Human Anthropology, (2) Africa by Toto, and (3) Betty White.
I just found this website called Better Book Titles. The blogger takes popular books and prepares a more appropriate title. Sometimes the title doesn't seem to have anything to do with the actual story. These could have been more helpful when we were in high school.
Here are some of my favorites so far (all are by Dan Wilbur or a reader's submission and posted on his site):
This funny video covers the history of the world in just under 7 minutes. It gets just about everything wrong, but I am thinking that they did that on purpose.
If you have ever felt overwhelmed by your job, you know what anxiety can do to you. Ze Frank received an email from someone describing just those feelings and he wrote a song for her. It is a simple tune that you can easily hum to yourself to get through the day. Hopefully, this can relieve some of the stress in your life.
Chistine O'Donnell says that she is not a witch. Sure, that's what they all say. That isn't why I picked this sketch. I chose it because it is incredibly funny. From Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail, a village requests to burn a woman because she is a witch. Through the misuse of the Socratic Method and abuse of Logic, the wisest man in the village leads them to a "scientific experiment" to test whether or not she is in "fact" a witch.
