Near Earth Asteroids

This You-Tube video highlights the discoveries of thousands of Near-Earth Asteroids in the inner solar system.  Beginning in 1980, newly found asteroids appear on the map up to 2010.  A few colors codes to note: the sun is yellow; the planets are blue; the Earth-Crossers are red, the Earth-Approachers are yellow; the other asteroids are green.  As the asteroids are discovered, they are highlighted white for a short period.

While the universe consists of empty space, we often forget that we live in a rare pocket with lots of matter.  Our neighborhood happens to be more crowded than we think.
